Patrice Tabouret

Pi was born in Troyes, Aube, on November 14, 1967. Having been born into a family of framers, he discovered the world of art at an early age, where he met painters and sculptors from the region of Provence and the whole of France.
He then discovers his talent and begins to flirt with the one that would later become his only passion : painting. To better discover it, he began to form, under the tutelage of several painters, including Raymond Normand. Throughout this process, the discovery of different styles and techniques, starting with classical painting to the more contemporary techniques of abstract expressionism and pop art.

Beyond painting

Pi is the eldest of a couple of adventurous entrepreneurs, Marie José and Jean Marc, but alas! they do not share his passion, because "they do not wish for their son a job that is not promising." At the age of 17, he was seduced by the framing of paintings and the printing of postcards, and without realizing it, he embarked, for at least ten years, on family adventures. After experiencing failures and successes in his life as an entrepreneur, and without forgetting his passion for painting, he falls in love this time with pearls. He learned the technique of ceramics, the technique that would later allow him to stand out by giving his abstract paintings that particular touch that allows him to identify his creations among others. He then launches himself very quickly and without thinking too much about it in this new activity, he set up a pearl factory, Perlerie l’étincelles. This new experience will allow him to rub shoulders with the haute couture, Dior, Chanel, Lagerfeld, but after 5 years he feels that he misses something, he was not satisfied.

His path leads him to rediscover his nature as an artist: love, painting and adventure.

Pi meets his first wife and then his second wife, but they, like his parents, can't stand his life as an artist, his fidelity to art, so they become jealous of the painter's relationship with his lovers: ceramics and painting. Convinced that life as an artist is not compatible with family life, he either lets everything go or these women leave him. He decided to set off on his sailboat, exploring the Americas, and travelled the coast of Venezuela and Colombia. He shares his life with Native American peoples in the middle of the rainforests and highlands of the Andes, he learns from his cohabitation with the natives to take another look at the planet. After so many conflicts with his family, his parents and his wives, after so many breaks with the business world, he discovers a Creative Pi, a Pi who meditating feels his emotions, emotions that he wants to express through colors, the same colors that the peoples of sierra Nevada in Colombia use to cure the diseases of the earth , from Pacha mama.

Reconnecting with painting

After experiencing such profound and transformative experiences, Pi decides to reconnect with his original passion, painting, and for this he will rejuvenate himself at the largest museum of history, nature, the one that has inspired through time to countless artists and Pi will not be the exception. He paints the deepest of existence on earth, this existence that comes not only from observation, but from this fusion of human beings and nature that he feels as one body. In this new universe of Pi everything is part of the same cycle, where the departure and arrival, the human, the animals, the flora, the oceans are all linked at least in this universe that it feels and expresses through colors.

Pi the medium of the spirit of nature

The experience of cohabitation with these so-called primitive peoples of America will allow him to question his anthropocentric vision of the world, for him man is not the center of the world nor nature is at the service of man. He learns from these peoples of sages that man and nature are in symbiosis and also learns to meditate, to express, to interpret through his abstractions the messages that nature sends us, Pi with his abstract art becomes a kind of pictorial medium through which the spirit of this nature is expressed. This non-verbal but sensitive language by which man and nature communicate. Abstraction is therefore a necessary choice to convey what he feels through meditation, and simply because we cannot see or touch emotions and sensations, these can not be expressed through figurative art, so it is through his paintings that Pi makes us feel the freshness of the waves, the cheerfulness and warmth of the sun , the strength of the wind, the mystery of the jungle but above all the urgent need to protect it.

A well-thought-out technique

The technique of Pi, is not the product of chance, it was chosen because it best represents the meditations and emotions of Pi, his unique way of laying the resin gives these paintings a matte and brilliant contrast, on the one hand the visible, thick and shiny material of the resin allows to suggest the cheerful and dynamic character of the painting and therefore of the natural world and on the other hand the multicolored color of the painting without resin suggests the raw and wild character of this same world. The mixture of materials, Chinese ink, watercolor, oil, acrylic, keys, strokes, quantities and proportions are not dictated by calculation but by meditation or emotion, posed by successive layers, drying after drying all his paintings are covered by a resin treated therefore respectful of the environment.
